so much for weekly posts

Man, I was doing really good with this posting every day thing until business got busy and things went haywire around here. I think I’m going to have to just give in to the fact that daily, or even weekly, is just totally impossible this time of the year. I can’t even believe it’s been over a month.

Anyway, I’m still reading… I think I’m somewhere in 1 Kings right now. I think I’ve decided that once I get done with the Old Testament read-through that I’m going to start on topical studies instead of going back book by book.

This is mainly because I don’t have time to do both, and because there are a couple of studies that I really want to get started on (but I don’t have the time right now anyhow).

I thought I’d settled on the church I was going to, but things got weird. The fact that they had absolutely no interest in my becoming a member, after a year, but were perfectly willing to have me help with things and participate in services was getting on my nerves. But then the pastor avoided answering a few simple questions, started preaching the same sermon over and over and over again (something like 9 out of the last 12 sermons I was there for were the same basic message), and the general lack of compassion in the church for non-christians started becoming more and more apparent.

Before I moved here I’d almost become convinced that there were no decent churches left. I thought I’d found one there but that’s obviously not the case. So I’ve spent the past several weeks searching for a church again and it’s not looking promising. There are some very bizarre practices in this area, and some very bizarre people.

Pray for me — it’s hard to search for a church when you’re anti-social. I’m having a hard time meeting this many new people without losing my mind.

I hate it when work gets in the way…

I just spent an entire week on a custom order, and I have a lot more orders to fill, so the likelyhood I’ll be able to post anything substantial on a regular basis is quite small.

On the upside, that means anyone reading this doesn’t have to put up with my rambling. On the downside, I don’t have a written record of anything I noticed recently while reading (I’m somewhere in Judges right now), and that kind of makes me sad.

I think I’m going to make an effort to sneak in a post every Sunday. Hopefully I’ll be able to manage that :).

Lost Internet Connection

Okay, I got lost for a few days without my high-speed connection. I’ve only been reading sporadically lately becuase august is insanely busy and I’ve been having a hard time keeping up. I will probably be posting sporadically all month as well. I know I won’t get a chance to post at least until sunday night (after our family reunion).

Spoon Theory

This one is more of a personal entry than anything else, but someone shared this article somewhere today and I found it really well written. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to live with a disability that causes pain and fatigue, this is a good read…

I finally got to a dr today for the first time in a while and was pleasantly surprised to actually have a decent visit. I was really stressing out about it, but it sounds like I finally found a gp that knows what he can and cannot deal with, and seems perfectly happy to take the time to help me find a neurologist. He was also ok perscribing the meds I usually take without forcing me to go through more tests (that’s a first!).

touching base (with nothing useful to say)

I felt I needed to post something today… I haven’t had much to say lately, but not for lack of reading. I have spent a great amount of time reading, studying and discussing the scriptures this week, and I just haven’t been up for blogging about most of it.

I have also been working on updating my praise songs database so that hopefully I can roll out a new version fo the list of praise songs soon. Once I get it up, it will be indexed, organized by topics, and all that stuff. I’m also considering getting a midi generator and uploading soundclips for the melodies, but I’m thinking that will have to be a “down the line” thing.

I’ve read through most of the New Testament now, and will be starting with Jude tomorrow. Hopefully this will lead to more useful blog entries :)

I should really learn to put my garage door down…

I’m post-dating this one because I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday.

I haven’t been feeling all that well lately, have been really run-down for whatever reason, and Saturday night I fell asleep on the couch intending to take a short nap and then getup and go to bed like I usually do.

Instead, I woke up around 1pm when my brother banged on the back of the couch I was sleeping on. Apparently, I had left my garage door up. Since I hadn’t called him to let him know the time my uncle’s cookout was going to be (which I didn’t know the time for yet — my uncle finally called after my brother showed up), he had decided to just drive down. Since he apparently had beat on my front door for a while to no avail, he came in the garage and yelled at me on his way in, and since after all that I still hadn’t heard him, he decided to bang on the back of the couch to wake me up.

I was so out of it, that I didn’t even know he’d banged on the couch… I thought I’d woken up when he opened the door. I should really be more careful…

In any case, we went and saw Superman Returns before going to the cookout. I wasn’t really excited about it but I sometimes enjoy that kinda stuff. It was really long. It was ok as far as movies go, but it had a LOT of ridiculous plot issues, mostly relating to scientific impossibilities. All in all, that was expected.

Cut for those who haven’t seen it yet

Change of direction…

I was supposed to have spent my evening tonight helping at VBS… I reminded myself of this several times yesterday, then still completely forgot about it today… at 2:30am I finally realized what day it was…

So a few hours ago I was sitting there stewing about how worthless I am, when it dawned on me that if I were actually worthless, Christ wouldn’t have bothered dying for me, but since He did, and since He’s perfect and all, it must be that I’m just not living up to the potential He saw in me.

So… in an effort to get myself back on a more useful track, I am going to make a concerted effort to stop rambling about pointless things, and use this blog as a tool instead.

If you’re actually reading this, and this subject annoys you, this might be a good time to switch over to http://storyblox.livejournal.com, which is my business blog, as this blog will probably be filled other things that will annoy you in the future.

If you’re reading this, and you aren’t severely annoyed by now, drop me a note and let me know :)

I will be making an effort to post on a daily basis (or close to it) from here on out… and I will make it a goal to “set my thoughts on things above” in each post.

Had Enough of Ebay Seller Fees

I finally took the plunge and closed my ebay store… I’m tired of paying monthly fees for nothing… I was going to close up shop a while ago but they dangled that carrot of search results for store items showing for every search and my sales actually made it worth it… for about two weeks, until they went back on that whole thing without warning and for no good reason (well, I’m sure they figured they were losing sales, but they didn’t give that as the reason, they made up some crap about it being better for the buyers the old way).

Anyway, enough rambling. My ebay store is now officially closed, and I’ve taken down the links, but I will still sell stuff once in a while in the old fashioned auction-style format, unless I get tired of it and give it up entirely.

Crazy Animals…

Okay all of the animals on my property are nuts…

A killdeer laid it’s eggs in the middle of my driveway (see previous entry), and screetches at me everytime I go outside.

I have a very strange little mockingbird that likes to sit on the post next to my glass doors and sits there staring and chirping at himself (cheep… cheep… cheep…) at regular intervals until I finally get annoyed enough to chase him away and hang something on the window so he can’t see his reflection.

Another bird ran beek first into the same glass door the other day, apparently not realizing it was there… the bird was stunned for a while but finally flew off… I’m going to have to find something to leave there permanently.

I have a rabbit that loves to sunbathe in my back yard, and spends endless hours staring at the lettuce in my garden. Most recently, the rabbit has decided to hang out under my back porch, which is like a tiny, low deck. The rabbit, though, being either crazy or stupid, can’t seem to walk underneath said porch without banging it’s head repeatedly. So it took me two days to figure out that that banging is the rabbit’s head hitting the wood repeatedly.

And for the past two days, a certain cardinal has been standing at one of my doors (back door yesterday, front door today) chirping constantly while staring in the window at me… it keeps this up until I walk over and open the door, at which point it flies away and leaves me alone for a while.

I’ve always attracted weird and crazy friends… but weird and crazy animals is a new one lol.
