Loving the Free Stuff!

Man, I’m loving this new PoshPoints site. It’s like an online swap meet… you get some free points when you sign up, then you can use your points to ‘buy stuff’ from other members on the site. You can ten turn around and list stuff of your own to ‘sell’ and get more points back, or you can just buy more points.

Sounds stupid right? Why not just use real money, right? WRONG.

  1. I’m broke.
  2. A lot of other people are broke.
  3. I have stuff that’s not worth the fees to sell on ebay, and worth too much to sell for 10 cents a garage sale.
  4. Other people have stuff that I could really use, that falls into the same category.
  5. People with 15 free points are more than willing to spend a few of them.
  6. It’s a little addicting.

With my free points I got a used VeggieTales video, a book, and some hair scrunchies. I sold a few small things I didn’t want, and got 3 more VeggieTales movies, a little toy harmonica, an awesome new Christian CD, and have some new ponytail holders coming (I always lose those darn things).

I now have several things I needed, and a few things I’ve wanted for a long time and couldn’t justify spending the money on. I’m only out the shipping on the things I ‘sold’ (you do have to pay shipping), but the things I got back were worth more to me than what I send plus what I spent on shipping, so it’s TOTALLY worth it to me. AND I’ve de-cluttered some.

How can you lose??

If you wanna check into it, the link is here: http://www.poshpoints.com/default.aspx?ref=9719
I get a few points if you start selling stuff, but even if you don’t, you get 15 free points with no obligation.

Yeah, I started out weird

My niece has been staying here this week, and I’ve come to the realization that I really was a weird kid…

We went to church Sunday evening, and it just happened to be a night where they had a really old quartet come to sing instead of having a regular service.  When I say really old, I mean the main guy had been leading this singing group for 50 years (literally).  In any case, at their age, they tended to lead towards the “Lord, I’m coming home” type of songs.  The first song they sang my niece got a horrified look on her face and said “dang, not yet!”

Now, when I was her age (17), I had already been hoping to die for 9 years.  It never dawned on me, really, that that wasn’t normal.  I guess I kind of always figured that anyone who believed in an afterlife would be looking forward to getting out of this place and go home…

In any case, I was noticing through Psalms this time around, that probably most of the reasons the Psalms bother me is that most of the blessings mentioned involve the promise of a long life, and that’s the last thing I want…

I always knew I was weird, but not in this particular way lol

Proverbs

Yay!  I’m finally out of the Psalms.  I usually enjoy reading them but this time through I just wasn’t feeling it.  Reading the Psalms when I’m depressed just ends up annoying me.

Proverbs on the other hand, is always a good read.  It’s also amusing me that the JPS version uses the word “dullard” where the King James uses “fool”.  For example, Proverbs 13:20, “He who keeps company with the wise becomes wise, but he who consorts with dullards comes to grief”        .

Psalms is Long!

I’m still in Psalms, I haven’t been sleeping until WAY too late lately, which means by the time I get to bed I’m already seeing double, and since I’m reading at night that means I’m not reading much each night.

In any case, I’m almost done with Psalms, I haven’t been blogging much through Psalms because, well, Psalms is pretty well covered by everyone else and I haven’t found much new to add.

I can’t wait to get to Isaiah though, I’m hoping to have a lot to say then lol.

Religion and Politics *GASP*

I never have, and never will understand the people who avoid subjects because they might turn into debates.

How can ANYONE who really honestly believes anything want to avoid the subject just because it might get heated?

Don’t talk about religion or politics?  Are you kidding me?  Aren’t those a couple of the most important things in a person’s life?

I can see avoiding those subjects when you’re meeting a client for a business lunch, when you’re meeting someone’s parents for the first time, or with perfect strangers.  But if you can’t bring yourself to discuss your religion with people you consider your friends then you must not care much about your religion, and if that’s the case, then why even bother claiming it in the first place?

This extends to so many areas of life…

If you disagree with someone on a particular subject, apparently the PC thing to do is to ignore it, because heaven forbid you have a disagreement, or a debate, or *gasp* an argument.  But seriously, if the subject is very important to either one of you it’s either going to keep coming up, or it’s going to become a giant elephant standing in the corner.

Have a conversation, have an argument, have a freakin knock-down-drag-out fight if you need to… but don’t just avoid the subject.  If it’s not that important, then you’ll have a discussion and you’ll decide to go on disagreeing.  If it is important then you’ll have a discussion, maybe even an argument or a debate, and someone might actually learn something or change their mind in the process.  If you disagree strongly enough, and it’s important enough to both of you that you actually get in a fight trying to discuss it, then chances are you’re not compatible anyway.  Better to find out now than 5 years down the line, right?

Mosaic of Paper Beads

Just showing off some of my paper beads. I haven’t had a chance to make any for a while due to the arm injury, and I didn’t have anything real to blog :)

Most of these have sold, the ones that haven’t can be found on my personal Etsy shop.

Psalms that make you go hmmmm….

Psalm 82 (JPS) – A Psalm of Asaph.

1.
God stands in the devine assembly;

among the devine beings He pronounces judgement.
2.
How long will you judge perversely,

showing favor to the wicked? Selah.
3.
Judge the wretched and the orphan,

vindicate the lowly and the poor,

4.
rescue the wretched and the needy;

save them from the hand of the wicked.

5.
They neither know nor understand,

they go about in darkness;

all the foundations of the earth totter.
6.
I had taken you for divine beings,

sons of the Most High, all of you;

7.
but you shall die as men do,

fall like any prince.

8.
Arise, O God, judge the earth,

for all the nations are Your possession.

Any thoughts?

Little things…

My headache has now been gone for two days!!!

I’m almost certain the problem was/is my neck, so I’m being very careful to stay conscious of how I’m holding my head, make sure I don’t sit in my chair with my hair up, and make sure that I don’t hold the phone with my head when I’m talking on it. This seems to be working okay, my neck is still out, but much better.

I tried to draw a bit yesterday, since my arm had been okay for a few days. And now it’s back to being messed up again… been mostly useless all day. Looks like I’m stuck with a useless arm, and if I want to write or draw or anything I’m going to have to do it with my teeth :(.

Using my hands for this kind of stuff has hurt for years, but I always did it anyway from time to time, when I figured it was worth the pain. Now it’s not just pain, but my arm becomes useless… there’s not many situations where writing a bit is worth losing an arm for a day or two… geez

C’est ma vie. At least my head’s not hurting today.

Tomorrow I get to go see why my car is spewing coolant again.

leaks and pains

Just leaving an update for anyone who cares…

My arm was out for about a week this time… It stopped working on a Wednesday (the day after my car blew that gasket), and was completely useless for about 4 days, then I had about 3-4 days of partial use.

It’s not back to normal even now, I can’t lift anything heavy and it’s randomly dropping things, but it’s back to semi-normal and it doesn’t hurt to look at it.

My car was out from that Tuesday through the following Thursday I think, borrowed about $600 to fix the coolant leak, and it seemed to be running okay again, but I didn’t drive it much.

Then I went to the neuro Monday (my aunt drove me down). He took his lunch hour to see me, and had some intern with him to show me off… turns out he had just presented my case as a case study at a conference too.

He tells me that if my arm goes out again, I’m just supposed to eat ibuprofin like candy (his exact words were “take a REAL dose” and then “people our size need at least 600-800mg every 2 hours”… “just make sure you take an antacid so you don’t destroy your stomach”), because there’s nothing else they can do for it. Great. He is sending me to an ortho that he seems to think is the best in the world though, so hopefully I’ll get some useful braces for my arms or something, and some new leg braces (for joy for joy). He also gave me some real pain pills too.

I got home from the dr office and crashed, threw my neck out sleeping in my easy chair with my hair up, and had a massive headache that kept me in bed most the time through Wednesday. Went to the store Wednesday night, wore a ball cap and my head stopped hurting, til I took the cap off and the entire top of my head turned read and hurt like I’d bruised it… what the heck? Didn’t stop hurting til Thursday afternoon. I woke up Thursday with a nose/sinus bleed, took a shower, got it to stop, then got a regular nose bleed. Got that stopped, got ready to leave, got in the car to drive an hour and a half and got the sinus bleed and bled down the back of my throat the whole drive.

Get to Urbana, and my dang car is leaking coolant AGAIN!!!

My niece had a nice birthday party, got to play with the kids, headache was gone and everything, sinuses stopped bleeding about the time I got there. Headed home late, went to bed early so I ccould get up and get the car to the shop.

So this morning I can’t get up… this afternoon I still can’t get up… finally pull myself out of bed only to discover that the blasted headache is back full force and my left eye doesn’t feel like it’s opening all the way. I examined myself in the mirror and it looks okay, and looks like it’s open all the way, or at least close to it, and if I try to open it further I can. If I start seeing double or catch myself losing coherancy I’m gonna go to the hospital though…
