My niece has been staying here this week, and I’ve come to the realization that I really was a weird kid…<\/p>\n
We went to church Sunday evening, and it just happened to be a night where they had a really old quartet come to sing instead of having a regular service. When I say really old, I mean the main guy had been leading this singing group for 50 years (literally). In any case, at their age, they tended to lead towards the “Lord, I’m coming home” type of songs. The first song they sang my niece got a horrified look on her face and said “dang, not yet!” <\/p>\n
Now, when I was her age (17), I had already been hoping to die for 9 years. It never dawned on me, really, that that wasn’t normal. I guess I kind of always figured that anyone who believed in an afterlife would be looking forward to getting out of this place and go home… <\/p>\n
In any case, I was noticing through Psalms this time around, that probably most of the reasons the Psalms bother me is that most of the blessings mentioned involve the promise of a long life, and that’s the last thing I want…<\/p>\n
